This is the only Australian marsupial with a feather-like tail that helps it to steer while gliding up to 20 metres using its gliding membrane which extends from elbow to knee. Active at night it feeds on nectar, sap and small insects. Round nests built form dried eucalyptus leaves can house up to 16 gliders. The mother will carry up to 3 young in her pouch. They are found on the east coast of Australia reaching into South Australia.
