Platypus 1

Platypus 1

This is one of Australia’s monotremes, so strange it was once thought to be a hoax. It digs a burrow from the edge of a creek or river, lays two eggs and when they hatch it suckles it’s young from milk ducts on its abdomen. The platypus forages on the bed of the waterway using its sensitive bill to feel for very small creatures and stores the food in its cheek pouches to be eaten on the surface. They occur from the mountains to the sea mostly in eastern Australia.
