Black Swans

One of Australia’s best known birds, the Black Swan is the only swan in the world so predominantly black, having white wingtips revealed only in flight. Often in large flocks, they may nest in big colonies on islands in lakes. The nest consists of a large heap of aquatic vegetation on the ground, crowned by a depression lined with down, They are common in the wetter areas of mainland Australia and Tasmania.
