Tasmanian Devil

Tasmanian Devil

This is the largest of the carnivorous marsupials but prefers to eat carrion. It is only found in the wild in Tasmania, sleeping in sheltered places and emerging at night to feed. Known for its fearsome noise, sharp teeth, and aggressive mating behaviour its population is now threatened by a tumour disease spread by biting. Tasmanian Devils are being bred in captivity on the Australian mainland as an insurance against possible extinction.
