Tawny Frogmouths 1

Widespread across Australia this nocturnal bird from the nightjar family is best known for its motionless daytime pose mimicking a tree branch, head held high and peering through narrowed eye slits. At night it preys on ground dwelling creatures, large insects, spiders, frogs, small mammals and ground birds, gliding silently to take its prey on the ground.
