Azure Kingfishers

Named for its plumage of deep blue with violet sheen it also has an orange breast, long beak and short tail. Found close to rivers, ponds, creeks, swamps, lakes and mangroves of Eastern Australia and Tasmania it nests in a hole in an earthen bank and is usually seen skimming low across the water fishing before quickly vanishing into shadowy overhanging vegetation.
